Preparation for Instant Sambar Mix
Measure all the ingredients given below and have them ready before making the mix.
Heat the Blacksmith Hybrid Kadhai on low flame.
Ingredients for Instant Sambar Mix
For the Mix
1 cup Toor Dal
4 to 5 Dried Red Chillies
8 to 10 Curry Leaves
3 tbsp Coriander Seeds
2 tsp Cumin Seeds
1 tbsp Chana Dal
1 Lime sized ball of dry tamarind
Salt , A Little Black Salt
Jaggery is optional
For the Tadka
1 tbsp Oil
1/2 tsp Hing
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
10 to 12 Curry Leaves
Few Whole Red Chillies
For Making the Sambar
2 tsp Oil
10 to 12 Shallots
1 Large Tomato
1 cup Veggies (I used pumpkin & drumsticks)
750 ml Water
3 big spoons of Sambar mix
Some chopped Coriander
Salt to taste
How to Make Instant Sambar Mix
Dry roast the toor dal in the Stahl Blacksmith Hybrid Kadhai until it is fragrant.
Add in the rest of the sambar mix ingredients and roast them all till they are fragrant.
Cool this mixture and then grind it.
Heat some oil in the Stahl Blacksmith Hybrid Kadhai and add the tadka ingredients.
Then, add the ground toor dal mixture and mix it well.
Cool this mixture too and store it in an airtight container.
How to Make Sambar Using the Instant Sambar Mix
For making the sambar, heat some oil in the Blacksmith Hybrid Kadhai and add the shallots, tomatoes, and the vegetables and some water.
Then, add the instant sambar powder, mix, and cook it for 7-8 minutes.
Tips to Make Instant Sambar Mix
You can wash & dry the dal a day prior if you’d like.
Do not dry heat the Blacksmith Hybrid Kadhai once it is hot. Always start on a low flame to maintain it longer.
Dry roast all the ingredients until chillies & curry leaves are crisp & brittle.
Cool the mix before grinding & filling in the jar.
